About Afriset
Afriset turns scattered, official African regulatory data into one clean, computed, cross-country-normalized layer for fintech operators. Afriset Fintech — the first dataset under the brand — is the operating-reality layer for African fintech: who's licensed, what licence is needed, what it takes to hold one, and what may move across a border — normalized across 42 markets and 4 canonical licence types.
How the data is assembled
Every fact comes from an official, public regulator source — a licensing register, an annual report, a statute or a circular. We map each market's local licence category to a canonical activity so markets become comparable, and we publish the record as the regulator states it. Every datum carries its source, an as-of date, and (where the source states one) a verbatim quote. Nothing is hand-authored: every page on this site is a deterministic projection of the underlying dataset.
Freshness is the asset. Each of the 157 official sources we track is re-checked on a weekly schedule — every fetch is content-hashed and appended to an immutable ledger, so the record carries proof of when we last looked (last sweep 2026-08-26). When a source changes, the new reading is recorded alongside the old, never silently overwritten (append-with-revision). Each register page shows its own last-checked date.
What we do and don't publish
- —Rules, not rates. We publish the rules of the road — who's licensed, what it takes, what may cross a border — never currency or exchange rates.
- —The record, not a verdict. We state what the official source says, as of a date, with a link. We never label a named entity "unlicensed" or "in breach" — we publish the record and let you conclude.
- —Honest gaps. A market without a licence category, an unreachable register, an empty register and a sourced count are distinct, reported data points — never conflated, never hidden.
- —Information, not advice. Factual summaries of public records; not legal or compliance advice. Verify with the regulator before acting.
Corrections
Corrections are handled in the open: revisions are retained, never silently overwritten. If a fact looks wrong, tell us — email hello@afriset.com and we'll check it against the source.
